Assistant Editor

Signature Media is Australia’s largest independent travel publisher. Our market-leading print titles include Signature Luxury Travel & Style, Holidays with Kids and Vacations & Travel, each of which are supported by digital platforms. We also publish LATTE Luxury News, client ebooks and digital platforms.

We have an opportunity for a full time Assistant Editor with a minimum of three years’ print publishing experience to join our team. You will need to have strong sub-editing skills, experience with InDesign and a passion for print media.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Group Editor, you will be working across our suite of print and digital titles. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Working as the Assistant Editor on Signature Luxury Travel & Style quarterly magazine

  • Working collaboratively with the editorial team to meet competing deadlines and produce high quality and engaging content for our readers across all titles

  • Writing, editing and sub-editing your own and others work

  • Researching, fact-checking and image sourcing

  • Working with the sales team to create native content for clients

  • Managing junior editorial staff and interns and working with freelance writers and subs, PR’s and other industry professionals

  • Proofreading enewsletters, web listings and articles when needed

  • Attending events and famils as required

The ideal applicant will have

  • A minimum of three years’ experience working in print media, preferably newspapers or magazines. Previous travel experience will be an advantage

  • A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media, communications or other relevant areas of study

  • An impeccable grasp of the English language and the ability to spot spelling, punctuation, grammar and consistency errors

  • Good knowledge of and experience using InDesign

  • Experience in meeting deadlines and the ability to work well under pressure

  • Ability to produce clear, concise copy

  • Highly organised personality and excellent attention to detail

  • Understanding of the advertising and commercial side of business and how this ties into your role

  • Confidence in conducting interviews and attending work networking events

  • Friendly, positive can-do attitude
